Atocha 14 (2022)

“Lost in Translation”, Rosenblut & Friedmann, Madrid

In September 2021, five Filipino auxiliaries took up residence in an apartment on Calle Atocha. The flat slowly became a hub for pre-drinks and parties with friends. Rather than capturing a solitary scene, Batungbacal artfully incorporated various objects to represent distinct moments over the ten months of their apartment living.

Two important details to mention: The walls, originally pristine white, were imbued with a particular shade of purple to encapsulate the calm yet ecstatic mood visitors often experienced within those walls. With the tiled floors, Batungbacal’s intent was to conjure an illusion of instability and disequilibrium, mirroring the effects of indulging excessive alcohol consumption.
