Shaken soda can (2024)

Featured in:

“With a bang! (or a whisper)”, Siesta Horchata cafe, Philippines

Inspired by Andy Warhol’s pop art philosophy and choice of subjects, B.Bat aims to elevate an ordinary object symbolic of many Filipino gatherings- a can of Coca-Cola, into a higher art status. Like Warhol, she delved into this everyday icon as her muse.

Coke, whether diet, zero, or lite, promises happiness (or consumerism?) and allows titos and titas of Manila to celebrate life’s simplest moments. But what happens when you accidentally  drop the can? What if life knocks you down, beats you up, and stirs everything around?

Reflecting on these questions, B.Bat experiments with the Cubist perspective and art style to create Shaken soda can (2024). With it, she dares to ask the viewer: Would you still be open to life’s surprises?
