The sudden emergence of the pandemic in 2020 pushed Batungbacal to retreat from the city to their family house in the calmer province of Pampanga. It was there that she started to develop her personal style and technique, and began work on commissioned art pieces.
Her initial nature pieces took inspiration from English artist David Hockney's bold color palette and free-spirited brushwork techniques.
