The "Auxiliares de Conversación" program is an initiative enforced by the Spanish Ministry of Education to address the growing need for a high-quality bilingual education. The program allows English-speaking foreigners, such as Batungbacal, to stay in Spain as a teacher’s assistant mainly tasked to reinforce the oral skills of students.  

Coming from a nation grappling with numerous educational challenges, Batungbacal harbored a sense of curiosity regarding the strategies and technologies implemented by a more developed country. Her eagerness to make a meaningful contribution was palpable, yet she soon recognized that certain issues transcended national boundaries.
